IdeaSPARK to Attack Creative Community Issues

Building on the success of SparkCon 2006, this year's IdeaSPARK promises to confront
compelling issues through sessions of speakers and workshops. Two all day sessions
starting on Friday Sep 21 will feature people from independent business, inclusivity, the
arts, and technology.

"We had some great feedback from last year on both speakers and the energy of the
workshops," says JP Reuer, who is organizing IdeaSPARK. "This year we want to drill
down on specific issues that are pertinent to our creative community."
While last year's format was designed to explore the potential of local talent, this year
will feature presentations from 9 speakers across 2 morning sessions, each of whom will
present their work and conclude with a compelling question. Registrants will then be able
to choose their topic to address as a small group through a variety of creative techniques.
Speakers and workshops will both take place in the new home of Vintage 21 at 117 S
West Street in downtown Raleigh. Raleigh Rickshaw will also be present to take exiting
attendees to other SparkCon events about town. Here's a lineup of the topics:

Friday Sep 21, starting at 9:30 am
Dan Ellison, Attorney
"Laws, Greed and Art: How to deal with legal crap but not let it hinder your creativity” An
overview of the legal issues that artists are typically involved in--contracts, copyright,
collaborations.

Saturday Sep 22, starting at 9:30 am

"The Miraverse--An Alternate Universe for Recording Music” A new approach to recording and
commercializing music--an approach inspired by Carlo Petrini's Slow Food movement.
Octavia Rainey

Registration is $40 and available online and on each day of SparkCon.

About SparkCon
In its second year, SparkCon continues to "connect the creative community" through a series of speakers,
workshops, and a huge showcase of local talent. SparkCon is 100% organized by volunteers through an
"open source" effort dedicated to recognizing local talent and enabling the Triangle to be the Creative Hub of the South.
