Daniel Douglas
keynote speaker

Daniel Douglas is a guiding force in the changing landscape of downtown Raleigh. As director of the Raleigh Urban Design Center, he is the link between all public and private development activity in the downtown. He advises the City Manager, Planning Director, commissions and City Council on urban design matters. He also facilitated, wrote and helps implement the city's Livable Streets Plan. Since the plan's adoption in 2002, the city center has attracted over $1.8 billion of new investment.

In 2006, Mr. Douglas was chosen as an Eisenhower Fellow. During his fellowship, he travelled to Germany and Spain, exploring innovative strategies of sustainability and urban design, and successful methods of economic development and transportation infrastructure. He also sought out examples of "creative class" influences in municipal economic development policy.
